Getting Cold Feet Idiom Explanations

Jeshka: Hi, dad.
Father: Hi, Jeshka.
J: Can I ask you something?
F: Shoot.
J: Should I marry Twelf? Maybe I'm just dying to get married and I don’t care who I marry.
F: Are you having second thoughts about getting married?
J: Yeah. I'm getting cold feet about this. I'm worried I'm making a big mistake.
F: Marriage can be scary. It’s for good. If people aren’t ready for it, they can wind up getting a divorce.
J: Yeah. It’s like you can read my mind! Relationships aren’t new. Grandma and grandpa got a divorce. The same reasons people got divorced in the past are the same reasons people get divorced today. History repeats itself.
F: You're not other people. You and Twelf will have a happy life together.
J: I'm just scared. I know I should stop being a chicken. I know we have a lot in common. We both enjoy doing the same things together.
F: When I see you together, I can tell you both love each other very much. He will be a great husband and a great father. He's kind to you and everyone thinks he's a wonderful man.
J: Are you through? I know all that. Why am I still confused?
F: Deep down, you know you want to spend your life with him.
J: You're right. It's just the wedding planning that is causing stress. Thanks, dad.
